The role of training model in improving nurses' knowledge during blood transfusion for children

Abstract

Objective(s): This study aims to determine The role of the training model in improving nurses' knowledge during blood transfusion for children .

Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was performed in the premature unit , emergency unit  and hematology unit  of  two hospitals in Baghdad and Baqubah city, Iraq from  September May 18th to 25th, october 2025. A convenience  sample of 80 nurses was selected. Nurses’ knowledge were assessed before and after training using questionnaire format. The instrument's validity and reliability were confirmed by experts and interrater agreement. Data were analyzed by questionnaire, and it processed using SPSS version 22.0.

Results: Demographic data were similar between groups before intervention. Comparison post intervention showed there is a statistically significant difference in the mean scores of nurses’ knowledge , indicating that there is an effect of the training model between the two periods (pre- and post-test) on nurses' knowledge at p0.05 toward the blood transfusion.  

Conclusion: There was a significant improvement in nurses' knowledge toward blood transfusion after the application of the training model. There were no significant association between the nurses general information and knowledge .

Recommendations: The study recommends ongoing training through workshops, conferences, and establishing hospital committees to improve blood transfusion. It emphasizes developing standardized protocols and integrating the training model into nurses’ knowledge . Continuous supervision and evaluation are also suggested to identify and address knowledge shortcomings.
